Octavio Café - History

Open doors for the best coffee

Octavio Café has profound roots. It starts in the 1940’s with Octavio Quércia’s dream to produce high quality coffee in Pedregulho. Before that, Giusepe and Vicente Quércia, Octavio’s granpa and father, who came from Italy in1890, cultivated coffee in Brodowski in the beginning o the last century. The choice of the name Octavio also converged with a study from Universidade de São Paulo about the sensorial evaluation of coffee. In this study eight coffee characteristics were evaluated (aspect, roasting, aroma, body, acidity, sweetness, drink and concept). They were analysed in an octagonal graphic and Ocatvio café reached a unique balance in the production of coffee and blends.

In the 40’s, Octavio Quércia, one of Vicente’s son, followed the family tradition and started cultivating coffee in Igaçaba, a district in Pedregulho. As an expert, Octavio knew that the good soil of Pedregulho, at an altitude of 1036 m, would enable a special coffee crop, this awareness led him into moving and buying a property there.

Octavio Café was originated like that, at Nossa Senhora Aparecida farm, in Octavio Valley, where weather, fertility and altitude are ideal to produce high quality coffee. Alta Mogiana is proud to produce one of the best coffees in the world.

At the end of the 90’s, Orestes Quércia, Octavio’s son, starts to dedicate to the farm and coffee. In 2002, after Octavio Quercia passed away, his son took over the farm and implanted new approaches for Octavio Café. The goal now was the creation of a new world brand for Brazilian Coffee.

An evaluation of the coffee produced at Alta Mogiana region, proved that the blends of Octavio Café have the best rates in the eight principal attributes that determine the quality of the drink: Aspect, roasting, aroma, body, acidity, sweetness, concept and drink. This result puts Octavio Café blends among the best specialty coffees in the world.

This octagon and the name Octavio Quércia served as inspiration to define Octavio café’s logo. The symbol, a single bean, reminds Octavio Quercia’s signature and the name maintains cursive writing, as if it were written by him. The colors brown, orange and gold express the coffee, the heat and nobility of the brand.
